Magogi Foundation · open-source, community-owned

Foundational software should earn trust through evidence.

An open-source collective building reliable, accurate, and secure systems software from kernel to cloud.

Why Magogi exists

Foundations should give people room to do work that matters.

Dependable technology should help people learn, create, and care for the world around them. We work on the foundations beneath it, so others have something solid to build on.

Why foundations matter

Care beneath the surface changes what people can build above it.

The layers that protect work, manage resources, and keep a system behaving as expected are easy to overlook until they fail. Magogi gives those layers sustained attention: clear boundaries, repeatable checks, and records that leave room for someone else to understand the decision later.

Useful progress can be small. A lesson someone can run, a library someone can install, and a limitation stated beside its evidence are all foundations another person can build upon.

learn build check useful knowledge

Learning, building, and checking form a loop: each result can improve the next attempt.

What we are building

Two bodies of work, with their boundaries kept visible.

They share purpose and stewardship. Each family keeps its own engineering standard, evidence, and release state.

Reusable libraries and tools

The mgf-* engineering family

Active development

Projects are governed by mgf-standard, with validation suited to each project's language and conformance level. mgf-common is the cornerstone.

Selected versioned Python packages are installable from the Foundation's public package index. The registry and index answer availability per component; package availability is separate from public source access and production suitability.

The sooth family

Active development Private

sooth works on repeatable behavior, provenance, explicit trust boundaries, and honest refusal. Its own engineering standard follows the Soothfast kernel's laws.

A private hosted kernel release exists. Hosted means the behavioral core runs inside a host environment; it is not a public operating-system download. Hardware and real mesh transport remain separate milestones.

Evidence with a boundary

A check should say what it establishes, and what it cannot.

Magogi uses several evidence types because no single test, document, or digest answers every question.

  1. Source inputs
  2. Build deterministic
  3. Artifact bytes
  4. Manifest provenance
  5. Review court
  6. Publish signed

Run a check

runnable

Claim: The hash lesson shows whether one file matches a recorded SHA-256 digest. Equality does not establish truth, authorship, safety, or correctness.

Try the bounded check →

Inspect provenance

build-recorded

Claim: The vendored registries and brand assets carry dated source records and recorded digests. The build recomputes those digests and rejects drift.

Keep state words apart

Claim: The status model defines shipping, planned, private and pending as separate state words; badges render only from its locked vocabulary.

The detailed record stays available when you need it.

This record identifies the exact site build, standards snapshot, and served token stylesheet behind the page you are reading.

The token digest can be recomputed against the stylesheet this page serves. The build date measures when this artifact was generated; it does not refresh the editorial review dates above.
